Terms of use
Plain-language terms for using HOA Stories and for posting your own reviews, ratings, and stories. By using the site you agree to what follows.
Last updated July 19, 2026
This is a summary written to be readable, not a substitute for advice about your own situation. Nothing on this site is legal advice.
Using the site
HOA Stories is an independent resource for people who live under HOAs and condo or co-op associations. You may read, search, and use the site for your own non-commercial purposes. Do not attempt to break, overload, scrape at scale, or misuse the service, and do not use it to harass anyone.
Your account
You can take part under a pseudonym. You do not have to post your real name. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in details to yourself.
Subscriptions and billing
Most of the site is free, including 3 AI analyses a month. HOA Stories Pro is a paid monthly subscription for heavier use of the AI tools. Here is how the money side works:
- Billing. Pro is billed monthly through Stripe, our payment processor. We never see or store your card number. The price shown on the Pro page at the time you subscribe is what you are charged; if the price changes, it applies from a later renewal, not retroactively.
- Renewal and cancellation. Your subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel. You can cancel anytime, self-service, via Manage subscription on the Pro page. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you already paid for — you keep Pro until then, and you are not charged again.
- Refunds. Partial months are not refunded when you cancel. If a charge was our mistake — a double charge, or a subscription you could not cancel because something on our side was broken — we refund it.
- Fair use.Pro’s “unlimited” AI analyses are subject to a fair-use ceiling, currently 15 analyses a day and 100 a month. It exists to stop automated abuse from running up the costs everyone shares; it is set well above what a person working through a dispute uses. Reading the site is never metered.
Content you post
When you submit a review, rating, story, comment, or upload, you confirm that:
- You own the content or are otherwise authorized to post it, and posting it does not break any law or anyone else’s rights.
- It reflects your own genuine experience or opinion, and it follows the community rules.
- It is about the association and roles like the board or management, not an attack on a named individual, and it does not include private personal data.
You keep ownership of what you post. By posting it, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, and distribute that content on the site so we can operate and promote the service. You can request removal of your own content at any time, which ends that display going forward.
Screening and moderation
Submissions are screened before they publish. We may decline, hold, edit for personal data, or remove content that breaks the rules or carries legal risk, and we may do so without notice. See how moderation works for the full picture.
Notice and takedown
If you believe a post is unlawful, infringes your rights, or includes your personal information, send us a notice via our notice & takedown form describing the content, where it appears, and why it should come down (the fastest way is the Report or Request removal link on the content itself). We review takedown requests, act on the ones that warrant it, and keep a record so we can follow up. We may reinstate content if a valid counter-notice resolves the issue.
Not legal advice
The rights content, guides, and AI tools on this site are informational only. They are not legal advice, they do not create an attorney-client relationship, and they do not guarantee any outcome. Reviews and stories are the experiences and opinions of the people who wrote them, and we do not verify every claim. For advice about your situation, consult a licensed attorney in your state.
No warranties and limits
The site is provided as is, without warranties of any kind. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the site or reliance on content posted by others.
Changes
We may update these terms as the service grows. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.
